$3.7 MILLION VERDICT RETURNED BY JURY DISABLED OLEAN WOMAN LOST LEG AS RESULT OF AUTO ACCIDENT

An elderly Olean woman who was already confined to a wheelchair due to diabetes lost her leg as a result of an accident in which the transport van she was in collided with another vehicle.  The woman was thrown from her wheelchair and broke her leg, ultimately leading to the need for amputation.  The jury concluded that the company contracted by the City of Olean to provide van transportation to disabled residents was responsible for the woman’s injuries because the van driver did not properly secure her wheelchair in the vehicle.  The victim as awarded $3.7 million
